Bubendorf School Adazi Raises Fitness Centre in Memory of Late Emeka Nwankwu

By Rev Fr Obinna Dike

The Auxiliary bishop of Awka Diocese Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye has blessed the foundation that will house a fitness centre to be built in memory of late Commissioner for Utilities Emeka Nwankwu by Bubendorf Grammar School Adazi Nnukwu, Anambra State. Late Emeka was a close soul bond of Bubendorf.

In his homily at the Memorial Mass in honour of Emeka, February 14 at the school premises, Bishop Jonas Benson applauded the gesture of the school led by the manager, Rev Fr Theodore Ekwem in placing a friend close to the heart both alive and at death. He urged Christians to practice friendship based on eternal values, the type that brought late Emeka close to those who knew him while alive.

In his speech, Fr Theodore Ekwem said Emeka was a person who lived in people when alive. He said the erection of the fitness centre was a necessity for sports and recreation needs of the school, the church and public at large.

‘The fitness centre will have gym and fitness equipment, some, courtesy of Late Emeka’s wife and family; Table Tennis and Snooker Lounge, as well as other recreational facilities. Already Emeka’s friend, Patrick Ubajiaka has committed a million Naira to the project. We named it after Emeka to maintain our relationship with him in memory of all the good things he was to our dear school both alive and dead. We really miss him’ Fr Ekwem said.

A good number of priests concelebrated at the Memorial Mass, as well as late Emeka’s family, friends, students and staff of Bubendorf.
