Bishop Mamza Commissions 25 Catechists, Urges Them to Be Just, Fair and Faithful to Their Calling

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev Stephen Dami Mamza has commissioned 25 new catechists urging them to be just, fair and faithful to their calling, even as he charged them to take up the call of Christ for evangelization very seriously.

Bishop Mamza handed the charge during the investiture and commissioning ceremony of the new Catechists at the Catechetical Training Centre Muchalla Gombi recently when he reminded the new catechists that it will not always be smooth but with prayer they will be successful.

The cleric also revealed plans to annually award scholarship to brilliant children of catechists in a bid to give them a bright future and that the Church has seen the need to also train the Catechists wives in skills urging them to be supportive to their spouses, take care of the home, utilise the source of income given to them and ensure their children continue with their studies.

Earlier, the Director of the Catechetical Training Centre, Rev Fr Simon Salama said that catechests are essential tools for evangelization. He lauded the commitment of the Bishop for the noble course and the catechists for dedicating themselves throughout the two years programme.

The Diocese, in collaboration with Missio Germany, provided each of the 25 families with a motorcycle to ease their movements and a sewing machine for their women.
