One of the top management staff of National Youth Service Corps, Mr. Kehinde Aremu, has advised Corps Members to be amenable to corrections and not unteachable youths.
Aremu, who is the Acting Director, Southwest Area Office with the headquarters in Osogbo offered the advice when he addressed 2022 Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
The Director, Southwest Area Office as part of his oversight function to the camp said that the Corps Members have the numerical strength to change the trajectory of the country for the better.
‘My dear compatriots in the national service, going by the reports reaching me from the State Coordinator, I am very proud and impressed with your comportment and I wish to state here that if you remain cool-headed and abide by the instructions of camp officials, the world will celebrate you
‘What you have been mobilised and deployed to do is national service and by this, you are expected to accept your postings without any mixed feelings and settle down to the task of nation building. The major industry in Ondo State is education and you will do well to contribute your quota towards the educational advancement of the Sunshine State,’. He said
The Erstwhile Coordinator of NYSC Anambra State admonished the members of the service corps to strive and present themselves always as responsible and patriotic citizens of the country.
‘You have a lot to offer to this country but your attitude will determine the height you will reach in life. As a father who desires good things for his children, I want you to humble yourselves and make the needed sacrifices during the service year and I am confident that this singular act will propel you to greatness in life,’.
He said that the country is full of opportunities that the corps members can tap into rather than seeking for non-existent pastures elsewhere.
‘NYSC has established an intervention that will make you great individuals and from what I have seen since I entered the camp gives me hope that with your zeal, the country will come out stronger from the economic situation we found ourselves presently.
‘The only way things can get better for us as a nation through you is for you to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme established ten years ago to reduce unemployment to the barest minimum in our society and I want to encourage you to put aside other considerations and key into the novel intervention,’ he said.
The Director who has represented the noble Scheme in international fora said that Nigeria has the potentials embedded in her youths to lead the rest of the world and enjoined the graduate youths to have positive disposition to all training in camp which are specifically designed to prepare them for the challenges of nation building.
‘I am qualified as a manager of the Scheme who has committed over three decades to training and mentoring of youths from various ethnic and social backgrounds. It is my understanding that youths who make sacrifices and are resolute to break all perceived barriers will stand before kings and not mere men. This is your lifetime opportunity to change the narrative with your positive contributions to the society.
‘NYSC was established to promote unity and integration and we are looking forward to seeing all of you to uphold this ideal with the sacrifice we are preparing you to make in the course of your service to the nation,’ he concluded.
Earlier in her opening remarks, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, State Coordinator, NYSC Ondo State, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Acting Director for finding time out of his ever busy and crowded schedules to visit the camp.
The State Coordinator informed the visiting Director that successive set of corps members deployed to Ondo State have always been well behaved, disciplined and focused.
Mrs. Ani disclosed that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme has been yielding positive results as all the corps members have shown tremendous zeal during the in-camp and hands-on training.
The acting Director was entertained by the selected members of the cultural troupe and NYSC Parade Band while SAED Committee presented him with a gift and a souvenir.
