Awka Residents, Shop Owners, Protest Alleged Withdrawal of Prepaid Meters

Awka residents and shop owners within Awka metropolis last Tuesday trooped out to protest against the alleged withdrawal of prepaid meters and what they described as metering fraud.
According to the protesters who pleaded anonymity, they were out to protest against alleged sharp practices perpetuated by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC.

The protesters mostly made of shop owners along Zik Avenue and around Eke Awka, turned out in their numbers to protest what they described as perceived ill of EEDC, especially the withdrawal of prepaid meters they purchased or got from EEDC.

The protest which terminated at the EEDC Headquarters, Awka, caused traffic gridlock along Zik Avenue.

Efforts to get the reaction of EEDC officials were not successful.
