The new Director of Catholic Women’s Organisation (C.W.O), Awka Diocese, Lady Theresa Chinyere Azodo has described the Annual August Meeting as a gathering meant for the training and empowerment of the women, not for show off.

Lady Azodo, who made this known through her 2018 August Meeting message for the Catholic women, noted that August meeting annually brings the entire women together, irrespective of their status and age, for their wellbeing, that of their families and the society.
According to the C.W.O director, ‘August Meeting is an important annual convention where the women learn from their fellow women and other resource personnel, how to manage their homes, and live responsibly as ideal mothers. It is a genuine clarion call made by the women themselves, during which they are empowered financially, spiritually and with skills to build their homes, their communities and transform themselves.

Lady Azodo enjoined mothers, who she described as the hearts of their respective homes to live up to their primary responsibilities of proper parenting in their families. She noted that just as the heart gives vital and continuous signals to the head, so a wife should be to her husband for the healthy growth of their family.

The director charged the Catholic mothers to in line with the C.W.O slogan of “Nd[ nne-Ugogbe ezi na xlq” and the word of God of Proverb 6:20-30, be the mirror and light of their respective families, listen to, and be close to their husbands and children. She described the role of mothers to their children as that of learner-teacher, who should at all times be closer to their children, saying that proper training of the children was necessary to ensure a better society.

Azodo exhorted women to desist from negative behaviours that debase womanhood, but instead, be embodiments of virtues that would be for the betterment of their families, the Church and the country at large. The C.W.O director, who cited Proverb 31:10-31, Titus 2: 5, Proverb 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:8-9, called on mothers to be virtuous women.
She identified the roles of mothers in the families as coordinators of responsibilities, good housekeepers, good homemakers, event planners, counselors, financial managers, healthcare providers and good directors.

Speaking at St Theresa’s Parish, Nibo and St Joseph’s Parish, Nibo on August 7, 2018, during her tour of the Awka Diocesan parishes for the 2018 August Meeting, Lady Azodo appreciated the Catholic women for their support to the C.W.O, to Peter University Project and to Catholic Diocese of Awka.
