ASUU-NAU Offers Scholarship to Indigent Student

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Chapter, has offered a scholarship award to Ani Emmanuel Chinemelu, a 300-level indigent Electronics and Computer Engineering student, as a way of cushioning the effect of hardship on the recipient.

Presenting the scholarship at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium, Awka, ASUU-NAU chairperson, Comrade Stephen Ufoaroh, said the association thought it wise to assist the student whom they described as a poor but diligent and serious student, noting that despite the meagre resources available to them, they decided to award the scholarship.

According to Ufoaroh, they would see to the completion of the student’s first degree, adding that they would take up the payment of his school fees from his present level to graduation, assuring that they would not renege on their decision.

‘We are here today to award a scholarship to an indigent student of Electronics and Computer Engineering. After careful consideration and observation, we discovered that he was truly facing serious financial crisis. It is a way of helping those in need. We are ready to do more if we have the means,’ Ufoaroh said.

Speaking shortly after receiving the scholarship, Ani Emmanuel Chinemelu thanked officials of ASUU-NAU for the gesture and promised to repay them with good performance.

For his part, the immediate past ASUU-NAU chairperson, Prof. Dennis Aribodor, expressed delight over the scholarship award, urging the present executive to maintain the tempo.
