The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, is set to undertake massive membership drive across the wards and LGs of Anambra State aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

The Anambra State chairman of the party, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu, disclosed this in Awka at an interactive meeting with national/state assembly members, state officers, LG principal secretaries, ward chairmen and secretaries of PDP, last Wednesday at Emmaus House, Awka.

Nwobu announced that 500 membership cards had been procured and would be given to each ward via the sponsorship of the leader of the party in the state, Mr Peter Obi.

He said the distribution would commence, April 12 and would be monitored by officials of the party to ensure a smooth exercise.

He said only ward secretaries and youth leaders would be involved in the exercise under the supervision of the ward chairmen and other officials, even as he assured that the exercise would be well publicized in the media.

He reiterated his warning that no delegate should identify with any aspirant to ensure fairness.

Nwobu also announced that the party would have a training programme by its members based in the UK for the members in Anambra which would be based on party mobilization, among others.

He disclosed that a total of N55 million had been raised for the administration of the party in Anambra State by eleven aspirants, following the directive by the party that they should pay five million each to aid in the running of the party.

Nwobu who reeled out the names of all the aspirants who complied with the directive, said anyone outside the list should not be regarded by members as an aspirant for the forthcoming election, unless otherwise stated by the party leadership.
