The gang was arrested at Neni in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State, while fleeing with a tricycle stolen from an operator in Awka.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a press release made available to newsmen in Awka.

Ikenga said: ‘Police in Neni intercepted an armed robbery gang that snatched a tricycle from the owner in Agu-Awka on 15/7/2023 (Saturday night).

‘The gang was smashed following information received from the Police in Awka that the gang was fleeing towards Anaocha LGA.’

The spokesperson of the Command who gave account of the arrest, said the police who were on patrol with the local vigilante had laid ambush for the robbers and got them apprehended.

‘One Beretta pistol and one locally made Chief Revolver pistol, twelve rounds of live and one expended ammunition were recovered from the three-man gang. The tricycle has also been recovered,’ Ikenga disclosed.

He listed the suspects arrested to include; Ebuka Madu, 22years, of Umunze; Chinedu Godwin, 23years, from Enugu State and Udegbunam Chikezie, 18 years from Neni.

Ikenga quoted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, as assuring members of the public that the confidence reposed in the Command for the maintenance of law and order, as well as the pursuit of justice, would not be taken for granted.

‘He has directed that the suspects be arraigned in court after diligent investigations,’ Ikenga stated.
