Barr Chinedu Lawrence Chukwuma has emerged as the chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, of Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, during the party’s local government congress held on Saturday, 20th May, 2023, at the LGA’s secretariat, Amawbia.

Barr Chukwuma polled a total of 115 votes to defeat his co-contestant, Mr Emmanuel Ikechukwu Agu, who was absent during the poll and got zero vote.

Speaking to the press shortly after the election, Barr Chukwuma said he would solidify the existing bond among APGA faithful and reunite the aggrieved members for the unity of the party as one family.

He pledged that his regime would examine the past general elections and use the likely findings to mould ideas and strategies on how to win future elections.

He commended the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye, for his sterling leadership qualities, and assured he would improve and sustain the Oye’s legacies.

In an interview with newsmen, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South LGA, Hon Anagor ThankGod Akachukwu, adjudged the election as peaceful and transparent and charged the elected members to prioritize collective interest and objectives of the APGA at all levels.

Hon Akachukwu, who stressed that APGA remained the number one party in the state, urged the elected members to ensure that they safeguarded and sustained the leading position of the party in the LGA in particular, as the armour-bearers of the Awka South APGA.

He expressed joy and appreciation to the Awka South People for what he described as their unflinching support and cooperation to the state Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, whom, he said, knew the way and the road to making the state a prosperous and livable homeland for the people of the state.

In a similar development, Hon Chinedu Brendan Anaekwe has won the APGA chairmanship position of Njikoka LGA of the state in a keenly contested election held at the LGA Headquarters, Abagana, on Saturday, 20th  May, 2023.

Hon Anaekwe emerged victorious with 211 votes against his challengers, Mr Justice Akpuoye and Mr Maduabuchukwu Akudu, who scored 108, and 18 votes, respectively.

While speaking with the press, Hon Anaekwe expressed joy for emerging victorious and pledged that he would uphold the corporate interest and objectives of the party above every other interest.

He promised to set a standard that would open up the party, adding that he would deploy his wealth of experience as a foundation member of the APGA to restore its lost glory.

In his remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Hon Clem Aguiyi, hailed the elections, describing them as peaceful, creditable, fair and transparent.

He thanked the electoral team led by the Chief Protocol to Gov Soludo, Mr Chinedu Nwoye, for transparency; the delegates for orderliness; and the contestants, for showing good spirit of sportsmanship in the elections.

The elections, which were conducted using option A-4 voting method in both LGAs, also saw the emergence of Mr Jukwu Dike and Mr Ifeanyi Okoye, as the party’s local government youth leaders for Njikoka and Awka South LGAs, respectively.
