…Catholic Bishops Declare One Month Special Prayers

Following the incessant killings and violent attacks in Anambra State, the Catholic Bishops in the state have declared a one-month special prayers for divine intervention, especially as the Anambra governorship election draws near, even as they offered supplications to God for a success poll.

In a release signed by the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, the bishops said the special prayers would last from 1st October to 30th October, 2021.

Describing the situation as extraordinary times that required extraordinary prayers and actions, the Bishops said the forthcoming November 6, 2021 gubernatorial election was when all men and women of goodwill needed to fervently act in accordance with their solemn duty to pray always and never to lose hope.

They said the special prayers would take the form of a special October Devotion, asking the intervention and intercession of the Blessed Mother Mary and Saint Joseph, who are great intercessors, on their behalf before God, especially during the Anambra election.

According to them, the people of God were specially requested to include major intentions which include, gratitude to God that they were alive and had the opportunity to cast their votes and choose their governor, for peace and security in Anambra State before, during and after the gubernatorial election, and for orderly and fair processing of the election results.

The Bishops charged church leaders to display wisdom as they led the dioceses and parishes for a peaceful transfer and continuance of power after the election, even as they urged the people of God in Anambra State to become agents of peace and progress in society.
