The Anambra State Government has commenced the process of issuing certificates to qualified block producers in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the State Material Testing Laboratory (ASMTL), Engr. Ebosie Ezeoke, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the measure was to ensure that only certified and qualified block moulders operated in the state in order to forestall incidence of failures and collapse of buildings and other civil infrastructure in the state.
Engr. Ezeoke also said the measure was in accordance with the provisions of Section 14 of the State Building and Civil Engineering Materials Testing Law, ANHA/LAW/2011/10, which empowered the Agency to carry out both civil engineering and quality control tests on structures and materials.
According to Engr. Ezeoke, the proposed action had been preceded by almost two years of rigorous and time consuming tests and training for block producers in the state.
He revealed that confirmatory tests were also conducted at the Laboratory office at Awka, using locally available materials for block production, including river sand and water.
The Executive Chairman further said that the certificates would soon be presented to the first batch of qualified block producers by the State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor, at a public presentation ceremony.
