Anambra Police Command Throws Weight behind IGP

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has thrown its weight behind the embattled Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, who was recently tagged an enemy of democracy by the Nigerian Senate for refusing to honour their invitations.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar, made the stand of the command known during a press briefing at the state Police Command’s headquarters in Awka.

The Red Chambers had arrived at the pronouncement following the failure of IGP Idris to honour its three invitations to provide information on the spate of killings across the country and to also explain the alleged inhuman treatment meted out to Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West.
At the briefing, the State CP, Mr Umar, described the IGP as a man of integrity whose commitment to the peace and security of the nation was not in doubt, and queried the yardstick used to determine the unfitness of the IGP.

Mr Umar who noted that the IGP had in the past appeared at the floor of the National Assembly on its summons, emphasized that the Police Act supported that the IGP delegated any of the Assistant or Deputy Inspectors General of Police to appear on his behalf as the summons was on the IGP and not on his person.
