…Prof Angela Nwamuo Emerges Chairman

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Anambra State Chapter, on Tuesday, held her Annual General Meeting and election at St. David hotel, Awka.
The Anambra State Chapter had for three years been led by an interim executive body which came on board in 2019 and had Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna as its chairman.
In her welcome speech, the interim chairman of the chapter, Prof. Stella Okunna, welcomed all members and assured them of a successful handover and election.
In his remarks before the election and handover, the President of NIPR, Alhaji Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, represented by a member of Council, Mr. Samuel Toby Oseloka, noted that NIPR was created to manage crisis and revealed that NIPR’s 2022 goal was aimed at sustaining national integration, peace, and security, but regretted that Nigeria was at an unceasingly divided state.
He pleaded with the Anambra State Chapter of the NIPR to use her wealth of human resources to attain greater heights.
He commended the leadership of the chapter, championed by Prof. Okunna, for their selfless leadership and for accepting to lead for three years, even though their tenure was just for six months.
For his part, Rev. Fr Prof. Boniface A.C. Obiefuna, a Council member, also thanked members and the interim executive led by Prof. Okunna for their selflessness and graciousness in carrying out their duties, especially in the aspect of organizing programmes and summits that had enhanced the growth of the chapter. He described Prof. Okunna as a mother who always looked after her children.
Giving a lecture on Purpose and Profits in Contemporary Public Relations, a former Commissioner of Information in Anambra State, Dr Tony Onyima, noted that PR practitioners should establish a strength of purpose and use technological advancements available to them to best use.
In her handover speech, the Anambra State Chairman of NIPR, Professor Okunna, explained that the interim executive body she headed, which came on board in 2019, was able to steady the chapter, as well as bring peace in the chapter.
She thanked members of the chapter and the national leadership of the institute for their continuous support to her interim executive at the state level. In a special way, she thanked Rev. Fr Prof. Obiefuna for his guidance and fatherly support and prayers.
The newly elected executive of the NIPR, Anambra State Chapter were the elected chairman, Professor Angela Nwammuo, Head of Mass Communication Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus; Associate Professor Ikenna Umeanolue, as Vice Chairman; Mr. Markmike Ekwealor, Secretary; Mrs. Jane Okafor, Assistant Secretary.
Others were Mr. Sunday Okagbue, Public Relations Executive; Mrs. Jacinta Nwafor, Financial Secretary; Mr. Nnamdi Onuzuluike, Treasurer; and Dr. Ijeoma Obi, Auditor.
In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Anambra State chairman of NIPR, Professor Angela Nwamuo, thanked the chapter for the mandate bestowed on her and her team to serve as she assured them of their commitment to serve responsibly. She however solicited for guidance and support.
Dignitaries at the event were Rev Fr Dr Martin Anusi, the Director of Fides Media Ltd; Dr Uche Nworah, the MD/CEO of ABS; Lady Chinwe Nnedum, the former MD of ABS, among others.
