The Anambra State House of Assembly, has called on Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Environment to intervene on the erosion menace ravaging some parts of Idemili North Local Government Area.
The call was sequel to a motion by the member representing Idemili North Constituency, Mrs. Nkoli Mmegbuaneze.
According to Hon. Mrs. Mmegbuaneze, the affected areas included Ugwumba- Nkeme Road, Umuoji; Mangrover Okonkwo Road, Umuoji; New Parts Nkpor by Down Flyover; Mgbemena Street, Awada; Enekwasumpu, Obosi; Eziowelle Civic Centre Road; Amaeze Village, Oraukwu, as well as Owelle- Aja Village, Obosi.
She maintained that if the mentioned erosion sites were urgently attended to, it would help to curb loss of life and property of the people of the area.
In their various contributions, the members representing Orumba North Constituency, Hon Romanus Obi; member for Anambra East, Hon Obinna Emeneka; Honourable Charles Ezeani of Anaocha II Constituency, as well as member for Ihiala I Constituency, Hon Chidi Udemadu, supported the motion and appealed for urgent intervention on the erosion ravaging those areas in Idemili North.
The Deputy Speaker, Barrister Harford Oseke, who presided over the plenary, advised citizens to be conscious of their environment and avoid those things that triggered erosion problem in their areas.
