The Anambra State Government has arrested a nursing mother, Mrs Chinyere Ifesinachi, who was alleged to have brutalized her house help.
Mrs Ifesinachi was arrested in Nnewi on the order of the Anambra State Commissioner for Women’s and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo.
Mrs Ifesinachi’s house-help, Idimmachukwu, was seen within the week on an errand for her madam, with swollen eyes and scars all over her body.
A resident of their area made a video of her and demanded for justice for her. She stated in the video that she did not go to school and had been subjected to inhuman treatment for every action of hers.
She stated that she was brutalized by her madam for mistakingly dropping one of her madam’s twins, who she was taking care of.
A media aide to the Anambra State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Children’s Welfare, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, stated that upon her arrest, the abuser, Mrs Ifesinachi, claimed that her actions were the handiwork of the devil.
The 25 years old mother of two was said to have begged that if freed, she would never engage in such.
The 8-year old house help was said to be her sister’s daughter who was given to her in March this year to assist her take care of her twins after she complained that she could not cope with house chores since putting to bed.
Ikeanyionwu quoted Commissioner Obinabo as saying that the woman had been handed over to the police for investigation and that she would be charged to court afterwards.
But in a later twist, the child was said to have been taken from the hospital and transferred to another hospital in Asaba by a popular social media influencer who claimed that the conditions of the hospital the child was staying in Anambra were poor.
He did this without informing the Anambra State Government which was infuriated with the action of the social media influencer and that of the hospital which released the child to a person that did not play any part in bringing the child the child to the hospital.
The government was also miffed that the hospital failed to notify the Anambra State Government before releasing the child to the social media influencer and the mother.
The state government said it had gotten hints that the mother of the child wanted to use the child to raise money, a development that angered her people of Nnewi who had earlier assured that they were capable of taking care of the child
