A Musculo-Skeletal physiotherapist, Dr Charles Ehirim, of Omega Physiotherapy and Back Pain Care Clinic, Awka, has attributed the cause of the prevailing high rate in which today’s young people fall prey to stroke to alcoholism.
The Anambra-based physiotherapist made this known in a press interview in Awka, last Monday.
According to him, ‘Stroke results when the blood in some parts of the brain get obstructed.
‘However, most people don’t seem to know what causes stroke. Some of our lifestyles, such as taking of alcohol, among others, contribute to this,’ he said.
Dr Ehirim, who was speaking on the free medical treatment to be offered to people with stroke disability by Omega Physiotherapy and Back Pain Care Clinic, Awka, last Monday, to commemorate the 2023 World Stroke Day, noted that the clinic would begin to offer treatment with a little token to people living with stroke disability and to rehabilitate them.
He said, ‘Omega Physiotherapy and Back Pain Care Clinic, Awka, is a member of World Stroke Organization. It’s mandatory that every member should offer free treatment to stroke survivors, people with disability because of stroke.
‘This is why we’re having this intervention today,’ Dr Ehirim said.
He added that in the coming months, the clinic in collaboration with Back Pain Care Foundation, would be having a free programme for back pains sufferers to set them free from the pains they passed through.
While stating that the clinic was new in Awka, Dr Ehirim expressed the hope that people with stroke disability living in the area would soon come to know about the clinic and get rehabilitated.
Adding that his passion and compassion for people living with disability made him to set up the clinic in the area, the medic appealed to the affluent in society, churches, community leaders, governments, among others, to support the clinic in the form of sponsorship for its programmes to enable it to achieve its set goal.
