Equity Movement Turn by Turn, a socio-political group has declared its support for zoning arrangement for the governance of Anambra State to Anambra South Senatorial District, pointing out that it is in the interest of the entire state and Ndi Anambra, report Jude Atupulazi and Precious Ukeje.
The group declared its position on the zoning arrangement, Monday, January 11, 2021, through its Chairman, Mr Gaius Eze, during the Anambra South Stakeholders’ Heart to Heart Chat at Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, at the residence of the first Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi.
Addressing the gathering, Eze, noted that the time called for great sacrifices for public interest. He maintained that the South Senatorial District needed to present the best candidate for the governorship position irrespective of political party.
‘The zoning and rotation of the governor’s seat,’ Eze noted, ‘is for the greatest good of this state and their people. It is in the interest of all Anambrarians that it is sustained.’
Earlier, the host of the occasion, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, while commending the group for the initiative, charged the aspirants to be reasonable in their judgment and avoid do or die politics. He noted that zoning of governance would encourage rapid development in the state and commended Governor Willie Obiano for what he described as his efforts towards sustaining equity and fairness.
Contributing, Senator Nnamdi Eriobuna commented on the need for political parties to produce candidates from Anambra South Senatorial District, and advised the aspirants to allow the emergence of the best candidate. He noted that competency was vital as the zone needed to produce a governor who would understand the pains of the masses.
Senator Eriobuna, who expressed pleasure at Equity Movement’s activities, urged the Movement to energize itself and carry the message to the people, explaining that if the people understood what they aimed at, and the need to do it, it would be better for everyone.
The group, through a communiqué later, pleaded with all political parties intending to present candidates for the election to ensure that their candidate was from the South Senatorial District.
The full communique went thus: That the zoning/rotation of the governorship seat is for the greatest good of the state and her people and therefore should be sustained.
That to sustain it, justice and equity must apply.
That justice and equity demands that it is the turn of Anambra South now.
That all political parties in the state are called to show patriotism by selecting their flag bearers, only from among aspirants from Anambra South.
That dual political constituencies/zones of aspirants will not allowed in Anambra 2021 Gubernatorial race.
That anybody from the south who is negotiating for the post of Deputy Governor from any party, is an enemy of the Anambra South senatorial zone.
That aspirants from other zones are to consider the state first before self and to support zoning, which is for the greatest good of Anambra State and Anambrarians.
The communique was signed by Hon O.C Gaius Ezeh (Chairman), and Hon Dan Ejianya (Secretary), as well as Chief Sir ABC Ogbuisi.
Political stakeholders, including some aspirants, attended the ceremony. Also present were traditional rulers of communities in Anambra South Senatorial District, among others.
