On Friday, 23rd February, 2018, the Amesi Catholic Community came out in their numbers to bid farewell to a worthy son and brother, late Hyginus Uzoma Okpara who was sick for three years and was called by his creator on January 20th,2017, and was buried on January 21st January, 2017 in his Compound. Earlier, when he led in the Concelebrated Holy Mass, Rev Fr Dr Prof Panteleon Umechukwu described death as a prize we all would pay in due time, He then described the deceased as a hard working man, and urged his family and the community as a whole to emulate his good behaviour.. He thanked God for his fulfilled life which was worthy of emulation and prayed God to grant him mercy and receive him in his paradise.
In his homily, the Parish priest of St Jude’s Catholic Church Awka, Rev Fr Hilary Ben Ezenwa condoled with the family over the loss of their father and brother and urged them to take solace in the fact that their brother lived a good life. He chided Christians against living worthless lives while on their temporary stay on earth, saying that without righteousness, no one would see the kingdom of heaven. He commended the family members of the deceased for taking care of their brother when he was sick. He described the death of the deceased as what symbolizes the demise of an ideal Christian and urged the living to learn from his legacy. He emphasized the need for caring for the sick, saying its attracts God blessings. He charged the faithful to live a life of purity and avoid anything that would not please God.
In a vote of thanks, the Parish Priest of St Rita’s Catholic Church Ichida, and also the brother of the deceased, Rev Fr Emmanuel Okpara, fondly known as Acada thanked God for the life well lived by his brother, saying they would greatly miss him especially his jokes. He also described his brother as an outspoken and jovial person. He thanked those who stood by them during their trying times, and appreciated all the priests who made out time to be with them. He thanked God for the life of his mother who has lost seven her children out of fourteen, praying God would give her a heart to bear the losses.
In a chat with Fides, H.R.H Igwe Paul Ifeanyichukwu Ogbuachor who described the deceased as a nice fellow who lived a simple life of honesty, said that they would greatly miss his presence. He prayed God to console the mother of the deceased.
