Alerts Nigerians of Those Using His Name to Defraud Others on Internet

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 Elections, Mr Peter Obi, has warned the general public to avoid falling victim to the different types of scams being perpetuated in his name on the social media, reports Jude Atupulazi.

It was gathered that some persons who are in the habit of defrauding other Nigerians had created Facebook accounts with the name of Mr Peter Obi, to carry out their fraudulent acts.

One of the persons behind the scams announced, through one of the fake Facebook Accounts that Mr Peter Obi was giving out N100, 000 each to interested Nigerian youths to start up any business ventures of their choice. Having lured their unsuspecting victims through such seemingly amazing offers, they struck at their victims.

But in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, Obi dissociated himself from such fake social media profiles.

He said, ‘Let it be known to the general public that I have no Facebook account. As a matter of fact, I only have a Twitter Account which is managed by someone else. You will not find me on Facebook, Instagram and the rest. If you find any profile of me on these platforms, do kindly report them to relevant authorities.’

He warned those using his name for internet fraud to be assured that the arms of the law would catch up with them soon.

He described as sheer wickedness the attempt by anyone to be strategizing on ways to defraud others of their hard earned money, instead of engaging in productive activities, especially now that the nation faced severe economic challenges.

‘We are already working with the law enforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators of these fraudulent acts and bring them to book,’ Obi said.
