After Successful Polls: Igbo Leader Seeks A New Face of Anambra

By Sunny A. Ijomah

As part of the effects of the just concluded 2019 general elections, the Spiritual leader of the Igbo nation, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo) has made a strong case for a new face of Anambra State that is free from the nefarious activities of illegal revenue agents who unleash hoodlums and touts on the residents and visitors in the State and forcibly extort money from private motorists, commercial drivers, petty traders, market women and wheel barrow pushers.

Speaking on his expectations from the victory of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) over other political parties in the just concluded Anambra State House of Assembly election which APGA took home 24 seats out of the 30 seats in the Hallowed Chamber of the House of Assembly.

Chief Ezeonwuka said that he expects effective measures from Government House in Awka against illegal revenue agents who he described as cabals using their wide connections to milk the State for so long. Most of these cabals are enemies to the State Government but had serious grip with using police protection.

The Ogilisi Igbo who is a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of APGA noted that the victory of APGA in the State Assembly polls has put the incumbent administration in a stronger position to consolidate on good performance of Governor Willie Obiano.

He added that it is time for the Governor to wield a big stick against the cabals who are stealing the revenue of the State and end up using the money to build hotels, petrol filling stations, housing estate and plazas among other things.

The Ogilisi Igbo also stated that the funny thing is that the cabal’s decieved Government into paying peanuts as to collect authority only to come into the market and dublicate several tickets then engage hoodlums and police backup to milk the State hundreds of millions of naira on monthly basis.

He stressed: “These cabals have continued to soak away the resources of Anambra State untouched using hoodlums and touts to extort money from the members of the public. The worst is that they work for those calling themselves relations to the authorities. And have wide links with security operatives who always ensure that agents working for them regain freedom shortly after arresting them. Sometimes they resist arrest by making phone calls.

“These touts are parading all sorts of tickets and are having a good time extorting money from members of the public at Bridge head and Coca Cola along Onitsha – Asaba expressway down to Upper Iweka, Onitsha – Owerri road axis of Upper Iweka, Ochanja Market, Main Market, Ose Market, Obosi, Nkpor and Oba axis and other places forcefully without anybody questioning them. The general publics is asking if the Governor knows about all these. But Ogilisi tells them that the Governor is continuing firing them but no way. But this time around the Governor must have his way because everything has expiry date.

“The worst is the nuisance they constitute which tarnishes the image of Anambra State. They are ready to unleash terror on the people who dare to question them with dangerous weapons. Enough of that rubbish. It is time to flush them out of the system.

“Anybody who is apprehended by the police as an illegal revenue agent must be compelled to disclose his pay master or else he will be made to face trial as a criminal in court for stealing the revenue of the State and anyone that comes with bail application must be unmasked as the real culprit behind the scene”, Chief Ezeonwuka.

He expressed the optimism that Governor Obaino who according to him, accorded befitting burial rites to Biafran fallen heroes, flushed out kidnapers and armed robbers and also pushed Okada riders out of Onitsha and Awka the State capital is capable to deal with the touts no matter the strength of the cabals behind them
