Dr Tessy Okoli, Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), FCE (T), Umunze, has called on academic institutions to organize intensive and extensive nationwide reorientation exercises for the general Nigerian populace.
Speaking while receiving delegates of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Dr Okoli said FCE (T) was ready to partner with any institution or organisation that was willing to organize career talks, entrepreneurship trainings or seminars that would arouse national consciousness.
‘It is high time we started organizing career talks, entrepreneurship trainings and seminars on topical issues that would arouse national consciousness with a view to creating responsible future for the youths.
‘We need to key into the discussion of national issues that would restore the bleak future of Nigerian youths as part of our corporate social responsibilities in this country.
‘FCE (T) is willing and ready to partner with any group to ensure this is done as it is the remedy to socio-economic problems the country is having,’ the provost stated.
In their separate remarks, Mr Leo Imoka, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and Lady Ucheoma Chukwudum, a director in the office of the Head of Service, concurred with the provost. They said the Obiano Administration had been youth friendly and had organized several youth empowerment programmes, while adding that the government would be advised on partnering academic institutions for such programmes as were suggested by the provost.
Earlier in her speech, the leader of the UNN delegation, Dr Mrs Ngozi Ulogu, spoke on the daunting challenges of the institution in her bid to restore the dignity of man.
Dr Ulogu advocated for the partnership of the provost in UNN’s efforts to provide functional education to the Nigerian youths.
‘The task to empower Nigeria’s teeming youths with quality and functional education is a herculean task. A lot of challenges are facing us as academics and institutions in this country and if we partner with one another, we will surmount them more effectively,’ Ulogu said.
