..Decries Lack of Activities

In his bid to ensure that credible and committed members of the Radio Television Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), assume leadership positions during the forthcoming ABS, Awka chapter election, the national president of the Union, Comrade Kabir Tsani Garba, has appointed a 5-man caretaker committee that will ignite activities in the chapter and subsequently prepare the ground for the next chapter election.
The 5-man committee inaugurated by the state chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Andy Onwualu (Akalusia) had veteran On Air Personality (OAP), Comrade Maureen Stone Enujioke as Chairman; Comrade Amaka Obi as Secretary; Comrade Afam Obidike as Treasurer; Comrade Eze Lambert KC as Financial Secretary and Comrade Stella Okoye as the publicity secretary.
Addressing the newly inaugurated committee members, Comrade Garba who was represented by the Vice President, Southeast Zone, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu (Magic Fingers) charged the members to inject life back to the chapter which, he (Garba) said was in comatose and also to promote and project the activities of union at the chapter level.
According to Comrade Garba, the caretaker committee members had three months time frame to put in place all necessary measures for the next chapter election, noting that part of their mandate was to provide the enabling environment for all the contestants as well as make the Union appealing to all members, even as he warned that if the committee failed to comply with the terms of reference they could be dissolved.
The RATTAWU boss expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the outgoing executive members, emphasizing that the Union could no longer condone indolence and uninspiring leadership, adding that he would ensure that hunger for Union’s activities and interest were resuscitated.
He urged the committee members to reconcile the chapter’s account and declared openly the assets and liabilities (debts) of the chapter and also know the financial status of every member, noting that the era of backbiting, blackmail, gossip, cliques and insubordination were over.
Garba thanked the management and staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) led by Nze Uche Nworah (Ezeudo) for the opportunity given to RATTAWU members in the establishment to associate and participate fully in the activities of the Union and also for granting them access to the hall they used for the inauguration and meeting purposes.
For his part, the state chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Andy Onwualu enjoined the members to rally round the newly inaugurated committee to enable them work at the maximum speed and also carry out their onerous task of reinvigorating, reshaping and remodeling the chapter. He urged the committee members to expedite action towards giving the chapter a new lease of life.
Earlier in a remark, the outgoing chairman of the chapter, Comrade Emeka Okeke (Mmimi Nawfia), expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity given to him and his team members to serve. He thanked the RATTAWU national president, Comrade Garba and the vice president (Southeast), Prince Emeka Kalu for their support and encouragements throughout their tenure, even as he insisted that they worked to the best of their abilities.
In her acceptance speech, the chairman of the Caretaker committee, Comrade Maureen Stone Enujioke assured the national president of their commitment towards changing the narrative in the chapter, noting that they would deliver in record time. She promised to carry everyone along, urging them for support to enable the committee carry out their duty efficiently and effectively.
Comrade Ugochukwu Aforkelu (Ezu) and the outgoing vice chairman of the chapter, Comrade Emeka Okoye (Mecunzy) were among those who attended the inauguration.
Inauguration of committee members, sharing of the Union’s 2011 constitution as amended to the caretaker committee members, refreshment, speeches formed the highpoints of the occasion.
