Programme of activities for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja has been released by the Planning Committee.
According to the circular dated October 9, 2021 and signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Planning Committee Rev Fathers Innocent Jooji and Vincent Ogunsoro respectively, the seven-day event will kick start on Sunday, October 31, 2021 with special Masses and prayers for the success of the events in all the parishes across the Archdiocese.
On Monday, November 1, 2021, the Feast of All Saints, there will be a Diaconate Ordination at Sacred Heart Parish, Gwagwalada by 10am while on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, there will be a Holy Mass for the pioneer bishop of Abuja, late Dominic Cardinal Ekandem, deceased priests, religious and lay faithful at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Area 3, Garki by 12noon.
There will be Couples Night with Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 by 5pm at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Area 3, Garki. “Couples who have wedded in the Church for 25 years and above are to register with their Parish Priests and communicate to the Central Planning Committee within two weeks,” the Committee directed.
According to the programme, there will be finals of football match on Thursday, November 4, 2021 by members of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) at Papal Ground by 4pm, while the Priestly Ordination comes up at SS Peter and Paul’s Parish, Nyanya on Friday, November 5, 2021 by 10am.
The Grand Finale of the celebration will take place at the Papal Ground by 10am on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Abuja Archdiocese was erected as an Independent Mission by His Holiness, St. Pope John Paul II on November 6, 1981.
