Four football clubs have gained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) from the Nigeria National League NNL.
The clubs, comprising 3SC of Ibadan; Niger Tornadoes of Minna; Gombe United of Gombe and Remo Stars of Abeokuta, got promoted to the elite division at the end of the Super 8 playoff concluded at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Sunday.
They will replace Jigawa Golden Stars, Warri Wolves, Ifeanyi Ubah FC and Adamawa United, which were relegated at the end of 2020/2021 NPFL season.
Meanwhile, the Football Club Owners Association of Nigeria has congratulated the four newly promoted club sides.
The club owners in a statement signed by Isaac Danladi and the Executive Secretary, Alloy Chukwuemeka, its Chairman and Secretary, applauded the newly promoted sides for displaying high level of soccer artistry.
The association said they were worthy to play in the top flight’s domestic league, the NPFL.
‘We are happy to welcome you to the top flight league as worthy winners and assure you of our cooperation in the NPFL,’ it stated.
The Association urged the newly promoted clubs to speed up their preparations and licensing requirements in order to have a smooth take off in the NPFL when it kicked off.
The club owners also congratulated the leadership of the NNL for a successful conclusion of the 2020/2021 season, while commending the government and people of Enugu for playing the good host for the play-off.
