OWERRI—ONE Gabriel Chidera Okani, 35, who claimed to be a Catholic Seminarian, was arrested while trying to steal a car during a priestly ordination ceremony at Assumpta Cathedral Church, Owerri in Imo state. The Director of Media and Communication of the Church, Father George Nwachukwu told Vanguard that it happened on Sunday.
Investigation by Vanguard also revealed the said fake seminarian from Umuebule Okporo in Orlu local government, walked into the premises of the church cloaked in a Catholic seminarian attire. But the worshippers raised the alarm when he was struggling to open the door of a car belonging to one of the priests who was in the church. Narrating the incident to Vanguard, Nwachukwu said: “He disguised as a seminarian to steal a car during priestly ordination at Assumpta Cathedral Owerri. “He said his name is Gabriel Chidera Okani, from Umuebule Okporo Orlu and is 35 years. “He was actually unlocking a car.
When people around saw the difficulty he was facing and knowing the priest who just packed the car, they become curious and drew closer.Then they noticed he was unlocking the car wrongly. They raised alarm.
” Also, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem who confirmed the incident said the suspect was in police custody. He added that, “the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dazuki Galadanchi, said community policing strategy is yielding positive results in Imo state.”
