The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command Mobile Court in Awka, has convicted thirty four motorists for various road traffic offences.

The Anambra State Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, while speaking to journalists, disclosed that the measure would go a long way in reducing road traffic accidents, and ensure the safety of motorists and commuters on the highways.

Mr. Ajayi explained that the Mobile Court was the best way to try road traffic offenders because they received fair hearing; even as he restated the determination of the Corps to reduce the rate of road traffic crashes in the state. He added that the mobile court’s proceedings would be a routine exercise.

He admonished drivers to ascertain the condition of their vehicles before plying the highways, as well as desist from over speeding, overloading and dangerous overtaking, especially during the on-going rainy season.

While sentencing the thirty four persons arraigned before the court, the Magistrate gave them various jail terms ranging from two months in prison with option of fines to more.

The offences committed included expired driver’s license, seatbelt violation and absence of fire extinguishers, number plate, worn-out tyre, failure to install speed limiting device, road obstruction and assaulting of FRSC Marshal on duty, as well as reckless driving among others.
