The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Honourable Bonaventure Enemali, has expressed satisfaction over the progress recorded so far at the 3weeks skill acquisition and empowerment programme currently going on in the three Senatorial Zones of the state.
The youth Commissioner visited the district where the training were taking place on Thursday, 18th October, 2018.
Addressing newsmen during the supervision at Abba Skill Acquisition Centre, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Enemali said that he was delighted over the outcome so far, stating that the intention of the scheme had been achieved.
According to him, ‘I feel delighted because the intention of these skill acquisition programme is to decentralise the training to the three Senatorial Zones,’ he said.
Hon. Enemali encouraged participants to utilize the great opportunity presented to them, even as he admonished them to be focused and punctual. He called on them to put on the spirit of team work, saying that it was a chance for them to change their lives for good.
He thanked Governor Willie Obiano for keeping to his promise. ‘I want to thank our Governor for giving Ndi Anambra the opportunity to learn and be self reliant. The youths should embrace this wonderful opportunity because such privilege do not come often,’ he advised..
For her part, the permanent secretary ministry of youths Empowerment and creative economy, Mrs. Steph-kere Uzor said Governor Willie Obiano’s vision of training and empowering Ndi Anambra was actually working. Mrs Uzor called on the youths to fully participate, noting that a skill learnt and practiced was a means of livelihood for a life time.
On the effort of creating awareness, she said they were using the media, especially the social media to educate the youths, noting that they noticed that youths used social media a lot, adding that hopefully, they would achieve the desired result.
‘In Anambra North, the training is holding at skill acquisition center Aguleri, Anambra Central holding at Abba Skill acquisition center while Anambra South is at Nnewi Skill Acquisition Centre. What we do here in the ministry is to discover, develop and deploy,’ Uzor concluded.
Speaking with some of the participants who spoke to Fides expressed gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for the initiative and for giving the citizens of the state an opportunity to develop and discover their talents.
‘We are really happy being among the first badge of this wonderful project. It is a moment we will never forget. A worthwhile experience.
Fides reports that the skill acquisition programme training sponsored by the state government had five areas of training. They included Solar Technology. Catering and Event management, P.O.P and Tiling, I.C.T and Cosmetology.
The 3weeks programme commenced on Monday, 15 October, 2018.
