2023: Atiku’s Plan to RetainPeter Obi As Running Mate Faces Serious Threat

By Sunny A. Ijomah

Governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform are said to have rejected Atiku Abubakar’s proposal to keep Peter Obi as his running mate if he wins the party’s Presidential nomination.

According to our correspondent, an acquaintance of the PDP Presidential candidate for the 2019 elections indicated that if Atiku is elected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 elections, he would prefer to keep Obi as his Deputy.

Mr. Obi chose to run for President because the opposition party is set to offer up its Presidential ticket, according to the PDP chieftain.

However, a former member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) informed Newsmen that Atiku has received heavy opposition from the party’s Governors over his intention to nominate Peter Obi as his running mate.

The PDP chieftain said the Governors reportedly kicked against the plan because they want Atiku to pick one of them from the South as his running mate.

He added that is the reason why some of the Governors are picking the Presidential forms of the PDP which they plan to use as negotiation for the Vice President slot.

The former PDP NWC member, however, said that Atiku may drop Obi and pick one of the Governors as his running mate as they are the major powerbrokers in the party.
