Umuchu Young Stars has lifted the 2018 Ezeno GOC Unity Cup organized for youths in all the towns of Aguata 1 Constituency, Anambra State.
Umuchu Young Stars defeated Uga United by a lone goal scored midway into the first half of a compelling contest decided at Combined Community School, Akpo, on Sunday, September 30, to be emerge the champions of the football competition. Nkpologwu Team came third after defeating their Achina counterparts.
The 2018 GOC Ezeno Unity Cup availed the male youths of all the towns in Aguata 1 Constituency the opportunity to participate to display their skills.
The competition which was organized to source for talents within Aguata 1 Constituency, had Chukwuemeka Orajiaka of Umuchu Young Stars named as the best goal keeper of the tournament while Geoffrey Silas of Nkpologwu Team emerged the highest goal scorer. The Most Valuable Player of the tournament went to Chibuzor Okpala, while Chike Unegbu emerged as the best midfielder.
Speaking to Fides, G.O.C. Ezeno who is an aspirant for the Anambra State House of Assembly, Aguata 1 Constituency, expressed happiness at the turnout of youths who participated in the competition and reaffirmed his continuous contribution to ensure the development of sports potentials among the youths. He said that a sports festival would be organized to expose more youths to different local and international clubs who would be a part of the festival to make the youths marketable to foreign the clubs.
He emphasized the need for introducing another sports competition, apart from football, in order to help people who had other skills and interests to develop them.
He assured that if he was elected into the House of Assembly, he would make the competition an annual event, even as he disclosed other competitions which he had put in place.
He said that the competition was aimed at informing the youths of his interest to vie for House of Assembly in order to represent their interest.
He promised that other infrastructural developments would be engaged if he won the election, even as he vowed to replicate the success story of Governor Obiano by catering to the needs of different wards through adequate consultations.
For his part, the member representing Aguata 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikechukwu Umenwa, identified sports as key to youth development. He commended the organizer for bringing the youths of the constituency together, saying that Ezeno had started his political ambition in the right direction. He disclosed that something similar had been organized by him in the past.
The final match was graced by sports lovers from different towns in the constituency who cheered their teams.
